In the proceedings that took place at Parramatta Local Court, the woman involved, whose identity remains unknown due to legal constraints, admitted to having physically assaulted the child on two separate occasions. These acts included kicking the child. However, she denied any involvement in intimidating the child.

The trial, presided over by Magistrate Susan McIntyre, marked the commencement of a five-day hearing focused on the disputed charges. Testimony revealed that the alleged threats, which are at the heart of the matter, spanned across several months during the year 2021.

Within the legal context, the woman entered a plea of guilty in response to two charges of common assault. Simultaneously, she entered a plea of not guilty to two charges involving stalking or intimidating a child with the intent to induce fear of physical harm. Her spouse, a 56-year-old individual, also proclaimed his innocence regarding a charge of common assault and a charge of stalking or intimidating the same child involved, although it is important to note that this child is not William Tyrrell.

John Marsh, the police prosecutor, laid out accusations suggesting that the woman had resorted to threatening the child with violence as a means of curbing misbehaviour throughout multiple incidents in the course of 2021. However, defence attorney John Stratton SC took a contrary stance. He argued that categorizing the alleged behaviour as criminal would essentially result in the criminalization of every household.

"It is the cumulative effect of ongoing circumstances where (she) was made explicitly aware that certain statements made to (the child) generated fear," he emphasized. "This scenario is certainly distinct from the typical household in Australia."

No-one has been charged over Tyrrell’s disappearance

Notably, there is no indication that these charges are connected to William's enigmatic disappearance. The mystery surrounding this event has captured national attention and has become one of the state's most prominent unsolved cases.

No individuals have been formally charged in relation to William's disappearance and suspected demise, with his former foster parents maintaining their denial of any wrongdoing.
