New South Wales Police have announced that their investigations have not substantiated allegations that the phrase “gas the Jews” was chanted during a pro-Palestinian demonstration held at the Sydney Opera House on October 9.

The protest, which occurred in the aftermath of the devastating Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, leaving approximately 1200 dead and 200 kidnapped, drew significant attention and criticism, particularly after videos circulated on social media purporting to show participants chanting the offensive phrase.

In December, a piece by the news platform Crikey, leveraging opinions from independent experts in audio-visual analysis, questioned the accuracy of these claims.

The article was co-written by Antoinette Lattouf, a journalist who was serving as a temporary host for Sarah Macdonald on ABC Sydney's morning segment.

Lattouf, who faced dismissal from ABC in December, had been vocal on her social media, challenging the veracity of the allegations regarding the chant.
