In a tragic incident, a car accident has claimed the lives of two young boys, while authorities are on the lookout for two individuals who fled the crash site.

The accident occurred in the suburb of Ashcroft, southwest Sydney, when emergency personnel responded to an alert regarding the crash around 10:50 a.m. on Monday. A grey sedan was reported to have collided with a tree and a power pole on Maxwells Avenue.

According to a statement from the NSW Police, "It is believed that two individuals escaped the vehicle and fled the area on foot."

The collision resulted in the deaths of two boys at the scene, described by police as "catastrophic." The victims have not been formally identified but are presumed to be 10 and 13 years old.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the vehicle was cleaved into two parts, with the front section beside a jacaranda tree and the rear end up in the yard of a nearby house.

Debris from the wreckage was scattered across the road.

The hunt for the other occupants involved in the crash led to officers, accompanied by police dogs, searching the area near Cabramatta Creek at the intersection of Magee Street and Maxwells Avenue.

A crime scene has been established by the investigators, which is anticipated to be maintained for an extended duration.

Currently, there have been no other reported injuries or vehicles involved in the incident, as per police reports.

To ascertain the identities of the driver and the other passenger, detectives are meticulously examining available CCTV and dashcam footage.
